The XRS is intentionally different: standard and Plus XRS models do not have the wireless remote shutoff found on XRX and XRX-R models.
Standard versus Plus
5.5 HP Standard Mini or 7 HP Plus Mini?
Standard Mini
- Older 5.5 HP engine
- XRX and XRX-R use 13-inch rear tires
- Cable pulls the brake caliper directly
Plus Mini
- Current 163cc, 7 HP engine introduced during 2024
- Plus XRX and XRX-R use 16-inch rear tires and a wider axle
- Hydraulic master cylinder and brake caliper
Do not misidentify the Plus brake: the pedal still pulls a cable. On Plus models, that cable operates the hydraulic master cylinder instead of pulling the caliper directly.

How to Start a TrailMaster Mini
Mini XRS / XRS+
- Engage the parking brake.
- Move the toggle switch to ON.
- Turn on both fuel valves.
- Move the choke toward the rear.
- Pull the starter rope until the engine starts.
Mini XRX / XRX-R
- Engage the parking brake.
- Turn the key to ON.
- Turn on both fuel valves.
- Pull and hold the dash choke out.
- Use electric start or the pull-start backup.
The dash choke must be held out while starting. If released, it retracts into the dash and the engine may not receive enough choke for a cold start.
After the engine starts, warm it for approximately one minute. Move the parking-brake lever completely forward and verify that the brake is fully released before applying throttle.
Break-in and service
Mini Maintenance Schedule
First five hours
Ride normally, inspect frequently and check the chain as it stretches and settles.
At five hours
Complete the required oil change, chain and clutch service, hardware inspection and overall adjustment.
Regular service
Approximately every 20 hours or once a year, whichever comes first.
- Use synthetic 10W-30 in the engine. Add gradually and use the dipstick as the final authority.
- Never add oil to the gearbox. It arrives lubricated and overfilling can blow out the gaskets.
- Keep chain movement at approximately 1/4 to 1/2 inch—not completely tight.
- Use chain-and-cable lubricant on the chain and appropriate clutch service points. Keep lubricant off friction surfaces.
- Inspect brakes, throttle return, steering, tires, fuel system, air filter, restraints and hardware.
- Use fresh premium ethanol-free fuel when available and add stabilizer to every tank.
Check simple causes first
Common TrailMaster Mini Problems
Kart will not move
First move the parking-brake lever completely forward. A partially engaged Mini parking brake is extremely common and can lock the rear brake.
Chain pops or falls off
Inspect alignment and tension. The chain should move only about 1/4 to 1/2 inch, but it must not be pulled completely tight.
Reverse will not engage
Reverse-cable adjustment is common on Mini XRX-R models. Adjust the cable before assuming the gearbox has failed.
Cold engine will not start
Confirm both fuel valves are on and use full choke. On dash-choke models, hold the choke knob out because it retracts when released.
Electric start is weak
Check battery charge and connections before replacing the starter, solenoid, key switch or push-start button. Keep the battery on a 12V maintainer when parked.
Engine runs poorly
Start with fresh fuel, fuel-valve position, choke position, air filter, intake boot and oil level. Gasoline older than about two months should be replaced.
A clutch may need service when the engine runs but the kart will not move, but several simpler checks should be completed before replacing it.

- Use a properly fitted DOT-approved full-face helmet and closed-toed shoes.
- Fasten the restraint for every rider and keep arms and legs inside the frame.
- Begin with the speed governor restricted and maintain direct adult supervision.
- XRX and XRX-R supervising adults should keep the wireless remote on their person.
- Test brakes, throttle return, steering and shutoff controls before riding.
