All current 300 machines use EFI. Carbureted 300 models have been out of production for some time, but GoKartMasters continues to offer carburetor and legacy fuel-system parts.
Do not identify a 300 by its engine number alone. Use the model decal, serial plate, radiator, rear suspension and fuel-system equipment together.

How to Recognize a 300 XRS or 300 XRX
Recognizing a 300
The radiator and liquid-cooling system are the fastest visual clues separating a 300 from a 200. Confirm the model with decals and the metal serial plate behind the driver's seat.
Carburetor or EFI
An EFI machine has an ECU behind the driver's seat plus an injector, throttle body, additional wiring and oxygen sensor. Earlier carbureted machines have a conventional carburetor and visible mechanical fuel components.

The rear ends are not interchangeable assemblies. Although XRS and XRX share the same engine, front suspension, CVT and forward-neutral-reverse transmission, they use different rear drivetrain, radiator, chain and brake components.

TrailMaster 300 Parts
Choose XRS or XRX before ordering rear brake, radiator, chain, axle or suspension components. Use the EFI category for current fuel-injection parts, and contact GoKartMasters when identifying a legacy 250 or carbureted 300 part.
Common 300 purchases include CVT belts, rear brake calipers, shifter cables, radiators, cooling parts, water pumps, thermostats, batteries, starters, solenoids, carburetors, EFI components, XRX axles and CV joints, seats, harnesses, wiring, sensors, key switches, clutches, hardware and rear center shafts.
Do not install a questionable part. Confirm its model and fit first. Once installed, it is considered used, and electrical parts are not returnable.

How to Start a TrailMaster 300
- Select neutral.
- Press and hold the brake pedal to activate the starter safety switch.
- Turn the key one click to ON.
- Pause briefly in ON so the EFI fuel pump can prime.
- Turn the key to START and release it when the engine starts.
- Do not hold the starter for more than six seconds. Wait momentarily before trying again.
- Pat the accelerator gently only when needed.
- Warm the engine for approximately one minute while watching for a warning light or alarm.
Stop for an overheating warning. Do not continue running a 300 when the temperature warning or alarm activates. Shut it down, allow it to cool completely and diagnose the cooling system before restarting.
The most important 300-specific system
Cooling-System Checks and Air Bleeding
Air trapped in the radiator hose is the most common 300 problem we see. It can cause overheating, a warning code and an audible alarm even when the machine is otherwise new.
Burn warning: begin only with a completely cool engine. Never remove a hot radiator cap. Coolant and steam can be released under pressure and cause serious burns.
- With the engine completely cool, fill the radiator with standard green coolant and leave the cap off.
- Find the coolant hose that runs along the driver's side of the seats, past the battery and to the thermostat. This hose commonly traps air.
- Carefully fill that hose with coolant, then reconnect it to the thermostat.
- Remove the vent screw from the top of the thermostat housing. Do not remove the screws that attach the thermostat housing.
- Start the kart and continue topping off the radiator. Gently squeeze the soft coolant hoses to move air through the system.
- When coolant begins to come from the thermostat vent opening, reinstall the vent screw. Use extreme caution as the system warms because the liquid can become very hot.
- Allow the engine to run through several cycles of the radiator fan turning on and off while monitoring temperature and coolant level.
- Replace the radiator cap. If the overheating warning or alarm activates at any point, shut the kart off immediately, let it cool completely and repeat diagnosis before running it again.
Do not assume every overheating condition is trapped air. Also inspect coolant level, hose routing, radiator condition, fan operation, electrical connections, thermostat, temperature controls and the water pump.
Break-in and regular service
TrailMaster 300 Maintenance Schedule
First five hours
Ride normally, monitor temperature and check the chain approximately every hour while it finishes stretching.
At five hours
Complete the required oil change, hardware inspection, brake, steering, wheel, chain, belt, coolant and shifter checks.
Ongoing service
Approximately every 20 hours or once a year, whichever comes first.
- Use synthetic 10W-30 engine oil and use the dipstick as the final level gauge.
- Maintain approximately 1/4 to 1/2 inch of chain movement; XRS and XRX use different chains.
- Inspect the CVT belt for debris, cracks, glazing and abnormal wear.
- Check coolant only when the machine is cool and keep standard green coolant available.
- Inspect XRX CV boots, separate axles, rear swing arm, center shaft and independent-suspension hardware.
- Adjust shifter cables when needed. Repeated loss of adjustment may indicate a damaged or binding cable.
Check the system before replacing parts
Common TrailMaster 300 Problems
Overheating alarm or code
Shut the engine off immediately. Once completely cool, check coolant, trapped air, radiator flow, hoses, fan operation, thermostat, sensor connections and water pump.
Starter does nothing
Select neutral, press the brake and check battery voltage. Then inspect the brake safety switch, key switch, solenoid, starter and connections.
EFI no-start or poor running
Pause for fuel-pump priming, inspect every EFI connector and use diagnostic information before replacing the ECU, injector, fuel pump or sensors.
Will not shift correctly
Adjust the shifter cable before assuming the gearbox has failed. Replace a cable that binds, breaks or repeatedly loses adjustment.
Slow takeoff or belt trouble
A rubber smell, belt dust, unusual clutch-cover noise, lag or no movement calls for CVT belt and clutch inspection.
XRX rear noise or looseness
Inspect CV boots, separate axles, joints, rear brake, swing arm, chain and center shaft. The XRX rear end is different from the XRS and must be diagnosed with XRX parts.

What Owners Should Know About the 300 Platform
The TrailMaster 300 is more complicated and generally more expensive to repair than a 200. It adds liquid cooling and more model-specific rear components, so correct diagnosis matters.
The 300 is not our first recommendation for steep hills. The independent-rear-suspension 300 XRX does handle unusually rough terrain well, but that rear system also adds axles, CV joints and other serviceable components.
Safety Before Every Ride
- Wear a properly fitted DOT-approved full-face helmet, eye protection and closed-toed shoes.
- Fasten every rider's restraint and keep arms and legs inside the frame.
- Check brake firmness, throttle return, steering, tires, wheels, hardware and the kill switch.
- Inspect coolant only when the engine is cool, and never continue riding through an overheating warning.
- Begin each session slowly and inspect the riding area for new hazards.
