Will the Mini XRX-R+ Fit the Intended Rider?
GoKartMasters generally recommends the Mini XRX-R+ for children approximately 4–10 years old, but age is only a starting point. The rider must be able to sit fully against the seat, see clearly ahead, steer without overreaching and press the brake pedal firmly through its full travel.
The sliding seat and adjustable pedals help families fine-tune pedal reach as a child grows. Always verify the actual rider's reach, judgment and ability to follow directions before allowing independent operation.
Likely a Good Fit When
- The rider can sit fully back while reaching both pedals. Measure your child's legs while they sit against a wall. That measurement should fall within the 26" - 36" range.
- The rider can steer comfortably in both directions.

Consider Another Size When
- The rider cannot fully press the brake pedal (their leg measurement is shorter than 26").
- The rider's knees interfere with steering. (Their leg measurement is significantly longer than 36").
- The rider is too tall to sit comfortably inside the cage. (This kart maxes out of head space around 5 feet tall).
- The intended driver needs an adult-size seating position.
- A Mid-size model provides a noticeably better physical fit.
Features That Make the Mini XRX-R+ Easier to Own
Reverse Gear
Reverse helps a young rider back away from fences, trees, garage walls and other places where continuing forward is not practical.
Electric Start With Pull Backup
Keyed electric start makes normal starts simple. The recoil starter provides a backup when the battery needs attention.
Wireless Remote Shutoff
An adult can shut off (and then restart) the engine remotely during early training. This supplements close supervision and proper governor adjustment.
Adjustable Speed
The throttle governor allows an adult to reduce available throttle while a beginning rider develops steering and braking skills. It can be adjusted in two separate places.
Hydraulic Rear Disc Brake
The current Plus(+) platform uses a hydraulic rear disc brake. Check brake operation before every ride and follow the current maintenance instructions.
Larger Off-Road Tires
The Mini XRX-R+ shares the larger off-road tire package used on the Mini XRX+. The V tread is aggressive and appropriate for grass, dirt, gravel, and trails.
Five-Point Harnesses
Both seats use adjustable five-point harnesses. They should be adjusted snugly for each rider before every ride.
Headlights and Horn
LED headlights and a horn add practical convenience, additional safety, and help the XRX-R+ feel like a complete youth powersports machine.
Ride Experience and Appropriate Terrain
The Mini XRX-R+ is best suited to relatively smooth grass, dirt, gravel and maintained trails. Full suspension and the larger tire package help with ordinary bumps, but the Mini chassis is not designed for deep mud, large rocks, steep terrain, jumps or aggressive adult riding.
Rack-and-pinion steering provides predictable response, while the live rear axle delivers power to both rear wheels. Beginning riders should start in a large, open area before moving to tighter spaces where reverse is more likely to be used.
Current 7 HP Mini vs. older Mini XRX-R versions
Legacy model note: The original Mini XRX-R belonged to the pre-Plus Mini series. Those earlier machines used a narrower rear axle, smaller knobby tires, cable-operated braking and three-point restraints.
TrailMaster upgraded the Mini XRX-R+ to the wider Plus axle, larger off-road tires, hydraulic rear braking, and five-point harnesses in order to provide the highest quality and safest experience for small riders. Teh kart is now even easier to control, and nearly impossible to flip over. Earlier Plus machines used the older 5.5 HP engine package. Current production uses the 7 HP engine introduced for the 2024 model year.
GoKartMasters supports parts and technical advice for both legacy and current machines. Owners should identify whether they have an original Mini XRX-R, an earlier 5.5 HP Mini XRX-R+ or a current 7 HP Mini XRX-R+ before ordering engine, reverse, brake, axle, wheel or electrical parts. All new order will receive the 7 HP version.

Freight Delivery and Final Assembly
The Mini XRX-R+ ships in a factory crate and requires final assembly, fluid checks, adjustment and a complete pre-ride inspection before operation. Freight procedures and included components can change, so review current GoKartMasters ordering and delivery information before purchasing.
Inspect Before Signing
- Inspect all sides of the crate before the driver leaves.
- Photograph the crate, labels and any visible damage.
- Write visible damage on the delivery receipt before signing.
- Keep the crate and packaging until assembly and inspection are complete.
Typical Assembly Areas
Factory setup instructions may include installation or final attachment of suspension components, wheels, seats, cage sections, steering wheel, battery, flag and exhaust guard. Assemble the current unit according to the instructions supplied with that shipment—not solely from an older manual or online video.

The Mini XRX-R+ is a real gasoline-powered machine and requires routine inspection and maintenance. Follow the current owner's manual for engine oil, air filter, spark plug, chain, fasteners, brakes, tires, controls, battery and reverse-system operation.

Common Questions About the Mini XRX-R+
Does the Mini XRX-R+ have reverse?
Yes. Reverse is the primary feature that separates the Mini XRX-R+ from the Mini XRX+.
How should a child use reverse?
The rider should come to a complete stop, select reverse deliberately, look behind and back slowly under adult supervision. Do not change direction while the kart is moving.
Does reverse require a clutch pedal?
No clutch pedal is used during ordinary operation. The rider selects the intended direction only after the kart has stopped.
Does it have electric start?
Yes. It has keyed electric start and a pull starter that can be used as a backup.
Can a parent shut it off remotely?
Yes. The Mini XRX-R+ includes a wireless remote engine-shutoff system. It is an additional control, not a substitute for supervision or speed adjustment.
What age is the Mini XRX-R+ for?
