Find TrailMaster centrifugal clutches, CVT drivers, driven pulleys, variators, rear clutch assemblies, jackshafts, sprockets and reverse gearboxes. These parts perform the same basic job in very different ways, so start with the exact machine family and drivetrain instead of ordering by appearance.

Drive Components Are Not Universal

Confirm the model, generation, engine and reverse equipment before ordering. A Mini clutch is not a Mid torque-converter driver. A 200 variator is not a 300 variator. Reverse and non-reverse machines can place the driven component on entirely different jackshafts or gearboxes. Read the full product fitment before installing any part.

What Belongs in Drive Components?

Customers often call every part between the engine and rear axle a clutch or transmission. These are the main components you will find here.

Centrifugal ClutchUses engine speed and weighted shoes to engage a drum automatically. Found on Minis and the Storm 200.
Torque ConverterA driver, belt and driven pulley that automatically change drive ratio. Found on Mids, MB200-2 and Hurricane bikes.
Variator and Rear ClutchThe enclosed GY6-style CVT components used inside the 150 and 200 engine and transmission assembly.
Jackshaft and SprocketsIntermediate shafts, bearings and sprockets that transfer power from a clutch or pulley to the final-drive chain.
Reverse GearboxReplaces a jackshaft on reverse Minis and Mids, then transfers power through a secondary chain to the axle.

The model family determines how engine power reaches the axle. Use these descriptions to identify the system, then verify the complete fitment shown on the product page.

Enclosed GY6 CVT

150, 200 and Full-Size Blazers

These machines use a front variator, belt and rear clutch pulley inside the engine's CVT case. Forward-neutral-reverse is built into the engine and transmission assembly, and the output shaft drives the rear axle through a chain.

Heavy-Duty CVT

300 XRS and 300 XRX

The 300 uses a larger, heavier-duty CVT and internal reverse. The XRS drives a solid rear axle through a chain. The XRX drives a center rear assembly through a heavier chain, then transfers power to separate rear axles. XRS and XRX rear-drive parts are different.

Important Mini Gearing Note

TrailMaster 12-Tooth Mini Clutches Use #40/420 Chain

Older industry conventions often pair a 12-tooth centrifugal clutch with #35 chain. TrailMaster's 12-tooth Mini clutch is different and uses the #40/420 chain family. Tooth count alone does not identify the correct clutch or chain.

Standard Minis generally used a 10-tooth clutch, while Plus Minis were supplied with a 12-tooth clutch and larger tires. GoKartMasters recommends the 10-tooth option when replacing the clutch on a Plus Mini because the lower gearing helps the larger tires take off with less strain and stronger low-speed pull. In our hands-on experience, top speed is not meaningfully reduced.

How Automatic Drive Works

The Drivetrain Changes Ratio Without a Manual Clutch Pedal

Centrifugal clutchWeighted shoes remain retracted at idle. As engine speed rises, centrifugal force pushes them outward against the clutch drum. That friction begins turning the sprocket and chain.
30-series torque converterThe front driver and rear pulley change their effective diameters as engine speed and load change. The belt starts in a lower ratio for takeoff and moves toward a higher ratio as speed builds.
GY6 variatorRoller weights move outward as RPM increases, forcing the belt higher on the front pulley. The rear pulley and clutch respond so the machine can accelerate without manual shifting through drive gears.
Tuning changes behaviorSpring tension, roller weight, tire diameter and sprocket ratio affect engagement and shifting. Random performance parts can create heat, poor takeoff, over-revving or premature belt and clutch wear.

Service the Open 30-Series System

Clean Mid, MB200-2 and Hurricane Torque Converters Around 20 Hours

Routine service is approximately every 20 hours or once a year, whichever comes first. Service sooner if the machine begins lagging, needs unusually high RPM to move, smells like burning rubber or sheds belt debris.

Clean dry componentsUse brake cleaner to remove belt dust from the serviceable driver components. Allow everything to dry completely.
Grease one locationApply only a light film of grease around the center sliding collar or sleeve where specified.
Keep friction surfaces dryNever put grease or lubricant on the belt, pulley faces, clutch shoes or inside a centrifugal-clutch drum.
Inspect before assemblyCheck the belt, driver, driven pulley, springs, keyways, fasteners and covers for heat or impact damage.
Critical sliding-collar warning Install the center sliding collar exactly as designed. The square shoulder must align with the flat edges in the driver housing. Incorrect assembly is one of the most common service mistakes and can cause catastrophic clutch failure. If you are unsure, stop and ask for help before starting the engine.

Diagnose Before Ordering

Which Component Is the Symptom Pointing Toward?

Symptom Check First Likely Direction
Engine revs but machine will not move Parking brake, selected gear, belt, both chains and visible clutch rotation Do not replace a clutch until the entire power path is checked.
Slow takeoff or unusually high RPM before moving Belt width and wear, dirty driver, parking brake and pulley movement Common signs of belt slip or a torque converter that needs service.
Rubber smell or black debris Belt, pulley alignment, driver assembly and engaged brake Stop riding before the belt fails or damages nearby components.
Grinding or difficult forward/reverse selection Idle speed, throttle return and shifter-cable adjustment Usually an adjustment problem, not a failed internal gearbox.
Forward works but reverse does not, or the opposite Cable travel, cable routing, adjusters and idle speed Adjust or replace the shifter cable before assuming internal damage.
Gearbox gasket sprays lubricant Stop the machine and inspect for overfilling or case damage This is not normal seepage. Contact GoKartMasters before further operation.

Protect the Reverse Gearbox

Stop Completely Before Selecting Forward or Reverse

1. Stop
Bring the machine to a complete stop.
2. Return to idle
Release the throttle and let engine speed settle.
3. Apply the brake
Recommended to keep the machine stationary while shifting.
4. Select the gear
Move gently into forward, neutral or reverse. Never force the shifter.

High idle and out-of-adjustment shifter cables are the most common reasons a gearbox grinds, resists shifting or will not reach both directions. Correct the idle or cable before internal damage occurs.

Do Not Add Routine Oil to a TrailMaster Reverse Gearbox

Mini and Mid reverse gearboxes are lubricated at the factory and do not require routine filling or oil changes. Adding a large amount of gear oil can pressurize the case and blow out the center gasket or seals.

Ignore online instructions that tell owners to add eight ounces. Do not add any gearbox oil unless GoKartMasters gives repair-specific instructions for your exact machine. Gearbox rebuilding is rarely needed and should be handled by a qualified mechanic.
